Quaid-e- Azam International Hospital, Islamabad has recently launched its Bone Marrow Transplantation Program, to be headed by Maj. Gen. (Retd) Dr. Parvez Ahmed. Who has been appointed as the Head of the Department in Clinical Hematology and Bone Marrow Transplant at a simple ceremony held on 22 Sep 2017 at QIH.
Maj. Gen. (Retd) Dr. Parvez has retired from Armed Forces on 1 st September 2017. He has worked as Consultant Hematologist & Bone Marrow Transplant Physician at Armed Forces Bone Marrow Transplant Centre Rawalpindi since its establishment in March 2001 and was its commandant from August 2009 to August 2016. He also commanded AFIP Rawalpindi from August 2016 to August 2017. Maj. Gen. (Retd) Parvez has contributions in conception, planning, execution and successful functioning of the largest and prestigious bone marrow transplant program at Armed Forces Bone Marrow Transplant Centre Rawalpindi as one of the founder member and BMT physician.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Shaukat Ali Bangash, The CEO and founder of QIH welcome Maj. Gen (Retd) Parvez for joining QIH and considered this a big leap forward in realizing his dream to make this great hospital a great institution in line with his vision to serve the nation. He described Dr. Parvez joining of QIH a major step in providing comprehensive care including bone marrow transplant facility to patients suffering from various blood diseases.
Dr. Parvez thanked Dr. Bangash and the management of QIH for his support and trusting him to lead the Bone Marrow Transplant program and pledged to strive to establish a successful Bone Marrow Transplant program of international standards using his expertise and experience.
He added that QIH has a great potential to establish a state of the art Bone Marrow Transplant program due to its broad and modern infrastructure that can sustain a large bone marrow and organ transplant facility. He mentioned that there is high prevalence of various blood diseases like thalassemia and blood cancer in the region and assured Dr. Bangash to establish a comprehensive facility for the management of blood diseases with the support of QIH management.
Department of Clinical Hematology and Bone Marrow Transplant at Quaid-e- Azam International Hospital will offer a comprehensive facility for diagnosis and management of all types of blood diseases including blood cancer, pre-transplant assessment of patient and donor, pre-transplant management, post-transplant follow-up and management of complications. The program will be registered with international bone marrow transplant registries.
