Quaid e Azam International Hospital organized a symposium in connection with the World Diabetes Day on November 8, 2014. Dr Shaukat Bangash (CEO) graced the occasion by his presence as the Chief guest.
The aim of organizing the event was to create awareness and impart basic knowledge about Diabetes among public. It was an effort to improve the quality of life of the diabetics and help them get good blood sugar control by making changes in their lifestyle and eating patterns.
Brig ® Abdul Halim (Consultant Nephrologist) opened the discussion with the introduction to Diabetes and stating the prevalence of the disease in Pakistan quoting figures from QIH patient data.
Dr. Zubair (Consultant Endocrinologist) described the basic facts about Diabetes including the Types, Symptoms, Causes and Prevention of the disease.
Dr. Arshad Mehmood (Consultant Diabetologist) discussed the importance of lifestyle modification in diabetes management.
Dr. Jeffery E. Shook (Consultant Podiatric Surgeon) described diabetic foot care and its importance to avoid complications.
Dr. Syed Nasim Haider (Consultant Vascular Surgeon) discussed the vascular complications in Diabetes.
And Miss Ayeza Umar (Consultant Dietitian) explained the importance of a healthy diet in diabetes management.
The discussion was followed by a Question and Answer session with the panel. The general public and the hospital staff attended the event and visited the stalls of the various pharmaceutical companies with great enthusiasm.
Addressing the gathering as Chief Guest Dr. Shaukat Ali Bangash CEO, QIH said that this kind of Symposium help create awareness in general public and will go a long way in delay with diabetes. He appreciated the participation of the patients and staff in large numbers in the symposium.
