These workshops were designed for consultant orthopedic surgeons who are performing arthroplasties in limited number and for young orthopedic surgeons who want to do arthroplasty and persue it as a career in future. These were the interactive workshops which include lectures by highly qualified “International & National Faculty” followed by Q & A sessions in order to clarify the basic concept of the participants. The course comprehensively covered all aspects of arthroplasty surgeries from indication, patients selection, pre-operative counselling and elaboration of surgical procedures such as surgical exposures, bony cuts, selection of implant and correction of mechanical problems during surgery. The course also included sessions on post-operative management, rehabilitation and possible problems encountered.
These workshops included live surgery demonstrations of total hip arthroplasty and total knee arthroplasty respectively in the operation rooms of QIH where Dr Khalid Aslam performed and demonstrated the arthroplasty surgeries to the course participants and faculty members.
The highlighted and most engaging part of this workshop was the hands on cadaveric surgery dissection. This included a small group of participants performed independent supervised replacement surgeries using real implants.
There was also a sow bone session on Nov 21st 2013. This was specifically aimed at development of cognitive skills, improve understanding of instruments and inventory as well as clarify concepts in smaller group discussion with faculty.
By the end of two days’ Work shop, the participants were awarded by “Certificates of Participation”.
